Cheap social listening with an API?
We are a two-person startup and paying $199 a month for alerts is painful. All we need is a webhook when someone mentions us on Reddit or HN. Is there anything under $50 a month with an API?
planned
Reddit is reserved as a direct source until a cleared path exists. Indexed posts arrive as web results with a domain today. Planned.
Today, use site:reddit.com in a web search or catch. Indexed Reddit posts arrive as web results with domain reddit.com. Coverage is real but partial because the index only sees some posts. Direct Reddit coverage is reserved until a cleared path exists. Free Reddit alerts at one hour or slower are planned once that path is cleared.
Today: Reddit posts the web index has picked up, delivered as web results with domain reddit.com. Planned: direct coverage once a path is cleared, and free Reddit alerts at one hour or slower.
Through the web index for now, with site:reddit.com or site:reddit.com/r/subreddit in the query. The direct path is reserved.
One syntax for every source: quotes, AND, OR, NOT, site:, author:, lang:.
query
site:reddit.com/r/yourcommunity "your product"One result, as a catch delivers it: source, author, the post, a prescore, thread context, and a suggested action your agent can act on.

The web index sees Reddit posts that search engines have indexed. This includes popular posts on large subreddits, posts that rank in search results, and posts linked from external sites. It does not include new posts in real time, comments deep in threads, or posts on small or private subreddits. This is real but partial coverage.
Free Reddit alerts at one hour or slower are planned once a cleared path exists. The model is F5Bot’s free tier: keyword matching, email delivery, no credit card. discatch adds webhook delivery and MCP access on the free tier. The paid tiers add tighter intervals and the full API.
Reddit is the only source in this category with real autocomplete demand: ten or more live completions on "reddit keyword alerts," and the long tail is deep. Brand24, Syften, and Octolens hold the top three results for "monitor Reddit for mentions." RedditMentions, SocialSonar, ForumScout, Redreach, and others fill the rest. GummySearch, which had 171,500 visits a quarter, shut down in 2025; its data is deleted on 2026-12-01.
Reddit’s commercial API is paid and approval-gated. Every product in this category reaches Reddit through some path, but nobody says how. discatch says it plainly: today, indexed posts arrive through the web index with domain reddit.com. Direct coverage ships when a cleared path exists.

site:reddit.com "social listening" AND (api OR webhook OR agent)A cleared path means the terms of the data source permit resale, or a contract is in place that allows it. Reddit’s commercial API is paid and approval-gated. Unauthenticated access was blocked in mid-2026. Every product in this category reaches Reddit through some path, but nobody says how. discatch says it plainly: today, through the web index. Direct coverage when a cleared path exists.
Free Reddit alerts are planned for the same reason F5Bot’s free tier exists: the on-ramp. A free catch on Reddit at one hour or slower, delivered by email or webhook, is the thing that gets a new user to sign up. The cleared path is what gates it.
GummySearch shut down in 2025. Its access ends on 2026-11-30 and user data is deleted on 2026-12-01. The site still draws about 171,500 visits a quarter. The "gummysearch alternative" query is live and contested: joinsecret, G2, Redreach, RedShip, and Prowlo all rank for it. Nobody owns "GummySearch alternative for AI agents" or "GummySearch API replacement." discatch’s angle is the API and MCP server, not the dashboard GummySearch had.
Partly. Use site:reddit.com in a query and indexed posts arrive as web results with a domain field. Direct Reddit coverage is reserved until a cleared path exists.
Yes, partially. Use site:reddit.com in a web search or catch. Indexed posts arrive as web results with domain reddit.com. Coverage is real but partial because the index only sees some posts.
Planned. Free Reddit alerts at one hour or slower once a cleared path exists, in the spirit of F5Bot.
Reddit’s commercial API is paid and approval-gated. discatch does not claim direct coverage until it has a cleared path. Saying "planned" without a path would be dishonest.
The same as any web search: one search unit per call, plus one result unit per matched item. You are searching the web index with a site: filter, not Reddit directly.
Yes. Use site:reddit.com/r/yoursubreddit in the query. The index covers the subreddit partially.
No. discatch never posts. Reddit removed over 40 million spam posts in the first half of 2025. The reply-draft playbook helps your own agent draft a reply for you to post.
F5Bot sends free email alerts for Reddit, HN, and Lobste.rs. discatch sends free HN alerts today and plans free Reddit alerts once a cleared path exists. F5Bot’s API and webhooks start at $214.99 a month.

Reddit results will move from web (with domain reddit.com) to a dedicated reddit source. Existing catches with site:reddit.com will keep working. The free tier will include Reddit alerts at one hour or slower.
Yes. Set the catch destination to a webhook. Today the results come from the web index with domain reddit.com. When direct coverage ships, they will come from the reddit source.
